| December 24, 2003 Wednesday On Monday we were finally discharged from the hospital and arrived home about 6 p.m. after completing 5 days of inpatient chemotherapy. She had a good nights sleep, but woke up Tuesday a little cranky with a temp of 102.5. After speaking with her doctor, the plan was to try to get her temp down with motrin and also keep her hydrated. Throughout the day she became more cracky and lethargic at times. With only minimal fluid intake and one wet diaper for the day we decided to call Dr. Inoue and let him know what was going on. He immediately decided to admit Paige for hydration and to check her line, blood and urine for infection. She was admitted at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday evening. We hope to have a preliminary report on the cultures by tomorrow morning, but it can take up to 5 days to get the final report. They decided to start her on antibiotics (Claforin) to play it safe. From what we understand, they will keep us for at least 24 hours. We feel so sad for Paige and that she has to go through this again. While it's disappointing that we won't be able to spend Christmas at home together ... the best Christmas gift will be when we bring our sweet little Paige home healthy. We're keeping our fingers crossed that Paige makes a quick recovery. We found out yesterday that we're scheduled to leave for our Disney trip on January 2nd and return January 8th. On return, Paige will then be admitted on the 9th to Hurley to start another round of the cytoxan/topotecan (5 days inpatient). The scans in Ann Arbor will be repeated sometime in February in order to make decisions on whether to operate or continue with more chemotherapy. Have a Merry Christmas! Enjoy and savor the time you spend with your families Love, Andy, Sandi & Paige |
