| June 9, 2004 Wednesday There's not much new here. Paige continues to sleep most of the day. She keeps her eyes closed most of the time so it's hard to tell how much she's actually awake. But, if you ask her a question or talk about something she's interested she will answer. Her appetite and fluid intake continues to be poor even though she surprised us all by eating an entire banana today. Anyone who has seen Paige in action knows the energy she had and it's just so sad to see her so thin and frail. This evening she was complaining of more pain than usual. We increased her pain medication, which seemed to help. Also, today hospice brought out an egg crate mattress, which will hopefully give her some comfort when she sleeps in our bed. We continue to get outside as much as we can. A few days ago Grandma gave her an early Birthday present, a remote controlled helicopter. Paige has always loved helicopters and airplanes. Even now whenever she hears one she'll open her eyes to look around for it. Whenever we were at Hurley for chemo, we could see the helicopter pad from our room. It didn't matter if it was 3am, she would wake up so excited and wanted to go to the window to see it. So anyway, Daddy and Pop-pop "experimented" with the new helicopter and it was the nearest to a smile and laugh she's had in a while - actually, all of us watching were laughing. One minute it was there and the next it was flying over the house and crash landing in the field across the street. The guys claimed it was the wind... it was quite a comical sight to see :) Well, as always we continue to take each day as it comes and we thank all of you for being there for us.
