| Friday June 18, 2004 The last few days have been pretty uneventful. Paige received a blood transfusion on Tuesday and it's really hard to tell how much it helped. We feel she's brighter eyed when she's awake and her appetite seems to be a little better. But, overall she does seem to be declining slowly. I went out for a few hours Thursday evening and when I came home and saw her it really hit me how sick and frail she really is. When I saw her lying in bed with Grandma I barely recognized her. She looked like a sick little girl, not our Paige who was so full of life just a short time ago. Since she was diagnosed last July we have truly felt that Paige has had a great quality of life. But, now things are different. To see her want to sleep all the time and grimace with every movement is just so heartbreaking. Early Thursday Dr. Inoue called to check on Paige. After hearing how she's felt the last 48 hours, he felt another transfusion might help her and we fully agreed. We went to the clinic in the afternoon for bloodwork and her hemoglobin came back at 4.9 (it was 4.0 prior to the blood given on Tuesday). We will go to clinic today at 10am for the transfusion. Again, no one knows what is the right or wrong thing to do in this situation. But, we feel in our hearts that this is the right thing to do for Paige. We're hoping that she'll feel better for the weekend and for her 3rd birthday on Monday. While it will be a quiet celebration with our family, we hope to bring some joy to her day. Thanks again to everyone for all the support and prayers you continue to send our way. It's appreciated more than you will ever know. Love, Andy, Sandi & Paige |
