| Monday June 14, 2004 Paige was very tired today and noticeably more pale than yesterday. We decided to have bloodwork done to check her hemoglobin, which came back at 4 (normally they would transfuse when it's less than 8). This is very low and we're sure it's contributing to her increased tiredness and irritability. We understand that this abnormal labwork is a "normal" part of the body slowing down, but after much discussion we feel that transfusing her with a unit of blood is the right thing to do. Our goal with hospice is to give her the best quality of life we can. We're hoping the blood will give her a bit more energy, and that in turn will help her to enjoy the little things that mean so much these days. Dr. Inoue has been wonderful and very supportive in whatever decision we make- we are so appreciative of him for that. We'll be going to the chemo clinic at Hurley Tuesday morning and will be there for about 3 hours. Because she's had significant weight loss and her fluid intake has decreased, the blood will have to be given very slowly so not to overload her system. We hope and pray it will make her feel better. Thanks for taking the time to check on Paige. I'm hoping to have some new pictures on her website in the next few days. :) Love, Andy, Sandi & Paige |
