| May 11, 2004 Tuesday Day +67 of Transplant Since Paige was admitted Sunday evening they've increased her morphine drip a few times to control the pain. Her temperature is still a big problem. It peaked last night at 104.5 and remains above 102 even withTylenol. So far, the blood cultures are negative and the oncologists say the temperature is likely from tumor progression. Yesterday we met with Dr. Yanik to discuss treatement options. He said that if we can keep Paige's pain under control and she doesn't have rapid disease progression over the next few days then we can continue with the MIBG therapy scheduled for May 19th. It's a tough situation going into MIBG therapy because of the minimal contact she can have with others for approximately 2 days. If she does continue to progress, there is the possibility of treating her with five days of intensive chemotherapy followed by the MIBG therapy at the end of May or early June. While we were already aware, he gently reminded us that this will not cure Paige. He feels it could give Paige a great amount of relief from the bone pain for approximately 2 months and the therapy could be repeated one time if needed. After presenting us with the this he wanted us to think about it and decide if this is what we want to do. We told Dr. Yanik that we are very comfortable with his continued plans for treating her. Paige has had so many good days in between her treatments that we feel this is the best decision. We pray that God will continue to lead all of us in the right direction for her treatment, and we know God will take care of Paige. While we have our room at the hospital hotel, Grandma has been making the drive down daily. Nana and Pop-pop arrived this afternoon from Pennsylvania and will stay through the MIBG therapy. They also decided to make the daily drive (which is less than an hour) and are staying at our house. Tomorrow afternoon Paige is scheduled for multiple CTs and I know we're all a bit nervous about the results. Thanks for taking the time to check on Paige. We'll update tomorrow. Love to all, Andy, Sandi & Paige |
