| Sunday April 18, 2004 @ 11pm Day +45 of Transplant Day 2 Post-op Paige has had an OK day. Last night her abdomen appeared a bit more distended and she had a few bouts of nausea and vomiting. We figured surgery would decide to re-insert her NGT, but they decided to monitor her overnight. With the temperature she had, an increase in her WBC (18,000 which could indicate infection), and blistering from the epidural dressing, we really pushed to have her epidural removed. I'm not sure if the anesthesia resident appreciated our input, but after talking with surgery they did agree. Since her platelets (needed for blood clotting) were on the lower side (61,000) they gave her platelets before removing the epidural around 4am. While the morphine via the PCA is giving her pain relief, it's certainly not the relief the epidural provided. They will continue to increase the morphine for adequate pain control. It's so sad to see her her in pain. She'll hold her little belly, put out her lower lip and say "tummy hurts." Our brave little girl. With all the activity during the night I was pretty tired by this morning. So when Andy arrived I headed back to the room and slept until 6pm tonight. Andy's parents (NaNa and Pop-pop) headed back to Pennsylvania this morning since Pop-pop had a few appointments he needed to get back for. Since it's only a 45 minute drive my mom (Grandma) has been driving down daily. Paige is resting right now, so hopefully it will be an uneventful night. Thanks for checking on Paige and we will update tomorrow :) Love, Andy, Sandi & Paige |
