                                             Day +28 of Transplant

It was a smooth trip to Ann Arbor today and we're hoping to hear results of the CT scans by tomorrow.  Since she wasn't scheduled until 1pm, she was unable to eat after 7am.  It was a challenge to keep her mind off food.  Specifically, a bowl of Captain Crunch, which is a morning ritual.  She must have known she wouldn't be able to eat this morning because she woke me up at 2:30am saying "Crunch Mommy."  I was so tired I don't even remember feeding it to her :)   Paige is just too smart.  As soon as we go into the CT room she starts saying, "No sleep. No white stuff."  She's referring to the drug (Propofol) they give to make her go to sleep before inserting the breathing tube.  It was pretty funny to see two guys, the CRNA and Anesthesiologist, singing "You Are My Sunshine" while trying to sneak the medication in without her seeing.  Their performance was a success because it was the first time she hasn't cried before anesthesia.  During transplant when her appetite was poor they had started her on TPN and Lipids.  Well, as soon as she saw the bottle of Lipids, which is a white liquid, she also said, "No sleep. No white stuff."  We quickly assured her it was "food."  She's just too cute.
Since her hemoglobin (part of the red blood cell that carries oxygen) has been trending down  the last few weeks they drew labwork prior to the CT.   When we were  ready to leave at 4pm we asked them to check the results.  Well, it came back at 7.9 and they usually transfuse with a unit of blood when it's below 8.  Since the clinic is closed tomorrow they would have to admit us to the floor for the transfusion.  After checking with her doctors there and an OK from Dr. Inoue, she'll be able to get the transfusion at Hurley in the morning.  Thanks to everyone for letting this happen.  It will be so convenient to be at Hurley, plus we're excited to see everyone in clinic.  Paige is already talking about going to nurse Mary's office, AKA snack room.  Plus, Daddy will be working and will hopefully find a few minutes to visit.

We will certainly update as soon as we hear any test results
Love,
Andy, Sandi & Paige
